It often happens that the customer appreciates the art and many times inquisitiveness is expressed about the process of manufacturing. This art of manufacturing the leather items is rightly called as handicrafts as the entire process does not involves the use of machine at any given point of time. |
The entire operation can be summed up in five different phases: |
| 1) Structure formation |
| 2) Modeling |
| 3) Leather mounting |
| 4) Coloring & Polishing |
| 5) Ornamentation |
|
| |
1) Structure formation |
The process begins with a formation of wire frame skeleton of the predefined structure, which is threaded with the wood wool . This structure lends the basic shape and strength of the leather sculpture. |
 |
| 2) Modeling |
Paper pulp is then impregnated on the structure by the craftsperson followed by slow and uniform drying. Due care is taken for matching the contours and poses. The modeling involves activities like fitting of glass eyes and the plastic hoofs. After the model is dried it is then followed by hard buffing of the product. |
 |
| 3) Leather mounting |
| The basic structure is now ready to undergo the next transformation stage. The buffed structure is now pasted with tanned leather of sheep or goat . This brings it into the form of leather craft. With this the proper cutting and pasting of leather is undertaken and other parts of the body such as leather ears nostrils etc are implanted on the structure. |
 |
| 4) Coloring & Polishing |
The next very important stage of the leather work is the color finish of the craft and once the craft undergoes the process of leather finishing it is then given a most desired combination of colors like that of tan, dark tan, brown, black or any other which beautifies the craft to its epitome.
|
 |
| 5) Ornamentation |
Simply called as finishing wherein the final touches are given to the crafts and it is further beautified with the additional mounting of saddles, tusks and other ornamentation as per the requirement of the art and sometimes as per the need of the customer order.
|
 |
Once again it is worth mentioning that nowhere in the entire process there is any utilization of mechanical mode, which implies in the real sense the true meaning of handicrafts involving lot of efforts, skills and artistic sense on the part of artisans and craftsman. |
Thus it is the combination of skill and efforts, which brings to us the final output in form of the lovely craft model, which gets our appreciation impulsively at the first sight of the model. |
| At any stage if the product is found not standing as per the International quality parameters, is discarded. |
